.Yet few know the story behind this concept that has redefined the airport experience.
A defining moment: the origin of Borreguito.
In the winter of 2011, Teodoro Martínez Ruíz identified an opportunity in the market: to offer premium Christmas gift baskets that would bring joy to Mexican homes. The proposal exceeded expectations, sparking the beginning of an entrepreneurial dream—to create a brand with authentic Mexican essence that could foster meaningful connections.
From that vision came the inspiration that would give life to Borreguito, an innovative concept designed to transform the way people give, remember… and wait.
From idea to airport icon.
In 2013, Borreguito opened its first store at Chihuahua International Airport, with a promise that still defines its spirit:
“You’ll never see us closed, always stocked to the brim, and filled with products that travel with you in every sense.”
Since then, Borreguito has turned long airport waits into enjoyable experiences, offering products that celebrate Mexican culture in a vibrant, welcoming environment that appeals to travelers of all ages.
What makes Borreguito different?
Borreguito transforms airport waiting time into a moment of delight by bringing travelers closer to the flavors and colors of Mexico. Each store showcases local snacks and regional specialties, turning every visit into a cultural encounter.
Today, Borreguito operates across major OMA Group airports, with plans to expand its footprint to new destinations throughout Mexico.
Beyond the boarding gates.
In 2023, Borreguito expanded beyond airports, allowing customers to enjoy their favorite treats at home or on vacation through a strong omnichannel strategy and online sales. The brand continues to deliver joy and authenticity, keeping the essence of Borreguito alive in every journey and every memory.
Vision 2030: leadership in airport retail in Mexico.
Driven by Teodoro Martínez Ruíz’s vision, Borreguito aims to become Mexico’s leading airport store group by 2030, strengthening its presence through innovative concepts such as Borreguita and BorreGO. Together, these brands champion quality Mexican products that accompany travelers wherever they go.
